Damascus covers an area of 221.2 sq. miles (573 square Km) and is estimated to have a population of 6.5 million people being the capital and largest city of Syria. The city is a governorate by itself, and the capital of the governorate of Rif Dimashq.

Mt Kassioun

At 12,000 feet, Mt Kassioun dominates the Damascus skyline. The ridge at the summit is crowded with cafés and food stands and is a popular spot to watch the sunset. Even after dark people enjoy a drink while taking in the amazing view of the city.

Reputedly the place where Cain killed Abel and Muhammed caught his first sight of Damascus, the mountain is also a major feature of the city’s religious heritage.
